I was contacted by Angela Garvey, MD at AG Associates in Cork, to see whether I could help update her business with a modern time and task tracking web site. The current scenario was a large MS Excel spreadsheet that was shared amoungst employees, but as her business, and her team grew, this "system" was just not cut out for the job.
After a few calls with her and her staff, I took down their requirements, some of which we're quite niche, and set about building a simple but affective system which could be used as a solid tool for the business going forward.
I settled on an open source project (GitHub repo available here) which would handle the nuts and bolts of the project; user authenication, account creation, client and employee sections, database creation. This helped me get a boiler-plate system up and running. PHP was the scripting language of choice, with PEAR as a package manager and MySQL for the database. I could then set about coding additional client specific-features into the web site (sorry, cant tell you much more than that) and to tidy up the look of the site.
A few more phonecalls occurred, and I had Angela's team putting the site through a solid testing before a deployment date at the end of that month. Needless to say, it went well and the system has been up running now for a number of months. Here's what Angela had to say:
"Nick worked on our inernal timesheet tracking system for AG Associates. We have a team of nine staff and timesheet tracking is essential and core to our business. He listened to our niche specifications and provided us with excellent feedback on the best way to achieve our product, even down to the details of hosting and security. We found Nick to be very helpful, extremely proactive and excellent to deal with throughout"
